ST. CROIX CATHOLIC SCHOOLS' TEACHERS MEET AT ST JOSEPH HIGH SCHOOL

On Friday, August 17th, St. Joseph High School had a gathering of the Catholic schools' teachers of St.Croix. The teachers from St. Mary's School were led by their new principal, Mrs. Catherine Schons while the teachers from St. Patrick's School were led by their new principal, Mr. David Corey and the St. Joseph High School teachers hosted the event with their new principal, Dr. Susan Diverio.

The day started off a Mass celebrated by Fr. Cecil Corneille at St. Joseph Church. Those present prayed for a successful new school year and were inspired by Fr. Corneille's sermon.

Afterwards, refreshments were served in the school library and the teachers from the three schools got to know each other. Then the main event started in Building 5 with a talk given by Sr. Kass Collins, SFCC, the Associate Executive Director for Planning and Development at the National Catholic Education Association (NCEA). Coming all the way from Washington, D.C., Sr. Collins used a computer presentation system to highlight the important points related to her main theme, "To Teach As Jesus Did". She elaborated on the characteristics of Jesus' Teaching with these 6 subthemes: 1, Knowledge of Subject Content; 2, Methodology; 3, Relationship; 4, Challenge; 5, Model; and 6, Prayerfulness. After each subthemes, teachers were given a list of questions for quiet reflection. Sr. Collin's outstanding presentation will do much to help continue the excellence of the Catholic schools on St. Croix.

At the end of Sr. Collins' talk, all those present were treated to a catered lunch in the school library and faculty room. Then the teachers continued their preparations for the first day of classes on August 20th.
