Computer Room Session of
October 17, 2002 (Internet Lesson # 7)

This is the seventh online lesson for a
biology class at St. Joseph High School. It is taking place in the
school's computer room. The purpose of the lesson is to allow the
students to use the SCILINKS for Chapter 10 in the BSCS Biology, 9th
Edition Textbooks. In using scilinks.org students will reinforce and
supplement their learning about the content of the
Chapter.
PROCEDURE: (Take notes on
this section and include it at the top of B-65 so you don't have to
keep returning to this page from SCILINKS.)
1) This is Objective
B-65. Each student will sign-on to
scilinks.org and then go to the online resources and the other links
listed below. Write a minimum of 3 lines or more of notes about the
websites visited unless other instructions are given. The number of
new scilinks and new websites (and time on each) visited will be
considered in determining the grade for this objective. Be sure to
hand-in the assignment at the end of this class only.
2) Go to these
SCILINKS:
a) Page 252 - Taxonomy,
Systematics - Spend around 45 minutes
visiting the websites in this order:
"Classification of Living Things -
Introduction" Read it and take the quiz.
"Linnaeus Garden"
The last listed "Carl Linnaeus
Biography"
"Dichotomous Keys" - make up an unknown
beetle.
"Naming and Classification of Fungi" Who was
Curtis Lloyd? What is name juggling?
"Firefly Facts"
"Texas Birds"
Then go to the other websites from Page
252.
b) Page 265 - Origin of
Life - Spend around 45 minutes visiting
the 4 websites.
3) Be sure to read and study
Chapters 9, 21, and 10 for the Unit 3 Test on Friday, 10/18/02. The
Semester Exam is coming on Thursday, 10/24/02. Review Chapters 1 to
10 and 21, all of your assignments and handouts in preparation for
it. If you have internet access at home, send any questions that you

October 10, 2002 (Internet Lesson # 6)
This is the sixth online lesson for a biology
class at St. Joseph High School. It is taking place in the school's
computer room. The purpose of the lesson is to allow the students to
use the SCILINKS for Chapter 21 in the BSCS Biology, 9th Edition
Textbooks. In using scilinks.org students will reinforce and
supplement their learning about the content of the
Chapter.
PROCEDURE:
1) This is Objective B-61. Each student will
sign-on to scilinks.org and then go to the online resources and the
other links listed below. Write a minimum of one side or more of
notes about the websites visited unless other instructions are given.
This objective will be continued for homework on a second sheet of
paper. For homework, write 2 sides or more about how the websites are
related to the subject matter of Chapter 21and how this computer
session helped you to learn the subject. The number of new scilinks
and new websites (and time on each) visited will be considered in
determining the grade for this objective.
2) Go to these SCILINKS:
a) Page 554a - especially go to "Kansas
Fossils", "La Brea Tar Pits", "Sabre-toothed Cats", "Fossil
Groups-Spores and Pollen".
b) Page 554b - especially go to "Virtual
Dating" - the demo and virtual dating radiocarbon.
c) Page 565 - especially go to "Field
Adventures in Paleontology" - select Australia., "Evolution" -
Darwin.
d) Page 569 - especially go to "Human
Prehistory an Exhibition" - walk through the 6 rooms.
e) Page 572 - especially go to "Bones,
Stones, Artifacts" and "Comparative Faunal Laboratory".
f) If there is any time left, go back and
visit as many of the other websites as time allows.
3) Be sure to read and study Chapters
9, 21, and 10 for the Unit 3 Test next week. Then use your extra time
at home to review Chapters 1 to 10 and 21, all of your assignments
and handouts in preparation for the Semester Exam shortly after the
Unit 3 Test. If you have internet access at home, send any questions
that you have to sjhs@islands.vi
SPECIAL RULES:
A) Do not use the printer for this
class. Sound is not required. If you have earphones and play your CD
music, you are breaking a school rule.
B) Do not play games (except for
any games you may find in the assignment) on the
computer.
C) Do not go to any other websites
without permission. If you go to the wrong site by mistake and it is
has inappropriate material on it, inform the teacher at
once.
D) No email is to be sent and do
not go to any newsgroups. If the teacher requests to view your
computer history, do not resist.
E) Pace yourself. If you are
running short on time, then try to visit all of the main sites
listed. Also, you may continue outside of classtime.
F) Keep all of the classroom
rules.
